COCKBLOCKER On Monday afternoon, all three of their clamshells will ping! from wherever they have them. Should they pick it up to see what all the fuss is about, Tamamo will realize that their RULEBOOK app has updated to version 2.0. There are a total of six new rules on their list now, though they are unreadable to anyone aside from her... Tamamo, who has not seen these rules before, will see the following: 1. Each week, you may protect ONE participant from being killed by ONE OF YOUR OWN. 2. You MAY NOT protect the same individual TWICE IN A ROW. 3. This protection will be extended to the FIRST PERSON you bang after your weekly meeting. 4. This protection will NOT TAKE EFFECT if you tell someone you are sleeping with them to protect them. 5. You may PRIVATELY CONFIRM YOUR ROLE if asked, but you may not FREELY OFFER THE INFORMATION to others. 6. You must remember that you SHARE A COMMON GOAL. [Well, Polly isn’t here, so that’s worrisome. But they still have a job to do.]

Tamamo, if you have any questions about how your role works, I think I should be able to answer for you. From what I can tell, you can protect someone from being killed by someone other than a demon. So, for example, if someone wanted revenge and plotted a murder, you could prevent that. But I think the risk is, if you happened to choose a demon, their victim would be prevented from defending themselves.

Anyway, we have the option of waiting to make our decision until later in the week, so long as we ensure the first person we’re intimate with after this meeting is our target. I’d propose we wait until tomorrow, in case the investigators find a demon. If they do find one, we should all theee target that person for a sexorcism.

But if they don’t find one, we can discuss what to do. We can choose the same person in hopes of getting lucky and succeeding at a sexorcism or we can spread out our protection to as many as possible.

Personally, I find my role to be quite useless if there’s no demon’s identity known, so I will make my decisions based on what the two of you decide.

Waiting is fine... choosing a demon would be best, but if we can't... I'd still want to protect someone who's been doing a lot for us.

... I also don't mind waiting. There's no need to use our abilities prematurely when it might be more beneficial down the line.

Though if there is no demon to immediately be found, then yes, it's likely better to spread out our protection. We'll be shooting blind otherwise.

It would be best to protect those who we can't afford to lose at such a delicate stage, yes.

The difficulty is, Grune's role certainly affords someone excellent protection. The person she chooses will be safe from demons. Your role and mine are a little trickier. They are both limited to extremely specific circumstances. I can prevent a person's death during an execution, which is only useful if I have an inkling who might be executed. And you can protect someone who is targeted by someone other than a demon. But so far, as far as I'm aware, we haven't had a single instance where two of our number targeted one another.

It'll be easier if we had an idea of who might attack someone like that...

I don't think anyone dislikes each other that much.

That's why I wonder whether our best strategy is to choose the same person Grune chooses. It seems to me the likelihood of either Tamamo or I happening upon a person in need of our protection is less than the likelihood of making a lucky guess at a demon.

I also wonder if that power of ours isn't what Polly fought to protect.

I am grateful to her, but I do not want us to weigh ourselves down thinking we owe her a debt by using our powers outside of our wishes. She granted us us time to be together, and think carefully.

... But that said, I understand your points, Edelgard-san. If nothing else, there's no harm in discussing who we might protect together.

I'd propose either Junpei or Dick-san. Setting aside the fact that the former is my Master, those two in particular have done a great deal of help. On top of that, losing either of them would sharply decrease morale, and we cannot afford any of us to lose focus.

I also believe Junpei, Dick, or Kagachi are our best choices, for if any of them were possessed by a demon, the result would be catastrophic.

They'd all suspect, I think... but Eddie did tell me that as long as we don't confirm it for them, it should be fine.

[ she's forgotten that it was polly who originally said that, so edelgard is getting all the credit. ]

So long as it isn't twice in a row, it should be all right, yes? But I don't really care which of those three we choose.

Exactly. If they suspect, but do not know, our protection still works. If asked, a good cover is that we're doing a task given to us by one of the hosts.

I was told that we should try not to keep protecting the same people over and over again. So doing Dick again is fine, but...

Of course, the other possibility is that the demonic strategy will be to lie low. It is hard to say for certain what the best outcome will be.
