[Setting off an explosion in a ship is definitely a bad idea. But, hey! Let's look at the bright side: this isn't a normal ship.
The force of the explosion rattles through the basement level, effectively obliterating the mahogany door. It's a good thing Katy and Haymitch sought cover, because there are splinters everywhere. But, well. They are both cowards who wear shoes — so the splinters won't be that big of an issue once they step out of the boutique. The remains of the door barely hang onto the frame by the hinges, allowing them both to catch a glimpse of what's inside the previously locked room... That is to say:
Complete and utter darkness.
Even though the door is gone, the light from the hallway refuses to filter into the newly opened room. If they want to find out what they've just unlocked, they'll have to step inside.]
[Well, they got what they asked for . . . god. He grimaces as he straightens up and steps towards the door. The lack of light is worrying, though, and he grips his knife tighter.]
Stay behind me. Back to the wall when you get in there.
[It's very much an order, muttered sharply as he goes through the doorway and in.]
[The explosion is quite satisfying. RIP gas can, you have served your purpose.
She follows, and this time she actually does what she's told. At least he's not trying to make her stay behind entirely. Plus, hm, bringing a knife along would've been a great idea... Whoops.]
We'll probably just find more of those skin muppets, you know.
[She's trying to lighten the mood. Give her credit for that sick door-unlocking she just did, buddy.]
The moment they both step into the room, something happens. Almost as if someone were hitting rewind on a video, the bits and pieces that made up the door will regenerate and reassemble themselves as if there had never been an explosion. It all happens too quickly for them to properly react, but before they know — they will find themselves trapped behind the mahogany door.
The room is still pitch black. In the distance, they can faintly hear the sound of someone's voice.
Anyway, he absolutely for sure is keeping Katy behind him, his knife out and his body tensed to react. The only time he moves is to turn and murmur something, as quiet as he can with her still hearing.]
Don't say a word.
[Is this a trap? Maybe! Maybe not. But he's sure gonna treat it like it is.
He takes his bracelet and, with only a moment's hesitation, tosses it a few feet away. It lands with a noise, and he waits. Just in case whomever it is wants to attack the second they hear a noise.]
[i lost sleep last night over how we missed an opportunity to make a mahogany joke when the door blew so we deserve whatever's coming honestly.
But, oh, this sucks. Katy should've brought a knife... or something. She didn't think you needed to bring weapons to a break-in? She's new here.
As much as she doesn't like feeling so useless just hiding behind him, it seems like the thing to do for the moment. She can't see for shit, so she gropes blindly until she catches his shirt oh god that had better be his shirt, staying quiet, trying to listen to the voice.]
[Cool! Haymitch tosses his bracelet, and both of them will hear it bounce off the floor a couple of times before sliding into the distance. There's a bit of a hollow, metallic clang when it apparently comes in contact with something.
The voice continues to chatter away in the distance, faint and unintelligible. Nothing else happens.]
[She whispers it, not like that's about to matter. If Haymitch isn't gonna do the stupid, Katy's contractually obligated. She follows his instruction, but does indeed whip out that lighter of hers, sparking up a flame to see what they're dealing with here.
This is creepy, but people only die on Thursdays, so. It's probably fine.]
[The voice continues even after Haymitch yells, just as faint and unintelligible as always.
Katy seems to have the right idea, though. Though the lighter doesn't provide a whole lot of illumination, it's enough for her to see the floor in this room is vastly different from the rest of the ship. In fact, it looks like of like... Rubber? Huh.]
[He snaps it out at a normal volume, glaring over at her. The light helps, but also, survival one-oh-one. But ugh, fine-- knife at the ready, he ventures forward, nudging the floor with one foot. Is there anything they can see within the room proper?]
Looks like rubber or something.
[That's not a worrying material for a room to be made out of.]
[Katy's lighter helps, but not that much. As Haymitch ventures forward, his knee is going to bump against something... metallic? Yeah. Be careful you don't trip over there, buddy.
Now that Katy is crouching down, she will notice that the rubber floor seems to be made up of interlocking rubber tiles. It's not bouncy though, no. More like very, very hard to slip and slide on.]
[And now she can see things, so suck on that. Speaking of! She's bored of waiting for poopy pants over there to scope out the potential dangers, so she's heading off in search of his bracelet.
Carefully, though, using her lighter to make sure she doesn't run into anything on the way. She'll keep pokin' around until she finds his bracelet or idk regrets.]
The light from the lighter is, unfortunately, weaker the further away they venture from the door. Katy will soon find herself only capable of seeing a couple of inches away from her as the flame continues to dim. Through touch and the two seconds of extra illumination he'll get as Katy nyooms by, though, Haymitch will realize he's feeling up an elliptical machine. Nice!
Katy will want to be careful, though. Because as she nyooms forward? One of her feet will catch on something solid, dark and heavy. If she's moving too quickly, she will definitely trip.
[................Okay, so, looking for a lightswitch is perhaps a better idea than wandering around with a lighter, she'll give him that.]
Something's up with my lighter.
[She flicks it off and on again, since that's a tried and true strategy. Assuming that doesn't work, she'll just go check out that thing her foot caught on... She's still using her lighter as much as she can.]
[please know that i, kyuu, have been crying as they just nyoomed forward without looking for a lightswitch.
That said-- The lighter doesn't provide much help at this point, even as Katy flicks it off and on again. As she checks out whatever she bumped into, though, she'll realize it seems to be... a black dumbbell? That tracks.
Haymitch will have an easier time now that he's returned to the wall. It doesn't take too long before he comes across a switch. Will he flip it?]
[IT SEEMED LIKE ADVANCED DARKNESS THAT CAN'T BE DEFEATED BY SOMETHING SO SIMPLE AS ELECTRICITY IDK.
presumably the light's bout to come on in a sec so in the meantime she's gonna pick up the dumbbell ig? if she can? just rippin alternate one-arm dumbbell preacher curls here wheel snipe celly boys ferda.]
Immediately, they will both be able to confirm that, yes. They have found their way inside the Gym.
Though the floor isn't as fancy as the rest of the ship, the machines are a whole other story. Everywhere they look, they will find top of the line equipment. From the elliptical machines, to the treadmills, to the abdominal crunchers — and so forth. There is a section for yoga and pilates, as well another with punching bags and (anatomically correct) dummies. A boxing ring sits in the middle of the room, with benches to the left and right. Each type of exercise machine or tool has its own section, usually with enough equipment for five to six individuals at once.
At the same time, they will both understand where the voice they heard is coming from. There is a screen mounted next to each section. On it, Haymitch and Katy will be able to witness as a muscular, skimpily-dressed instructor demonstrate the equipment's uses and how to get the best workout. There's even a screen near the door, where the same instructor explains what kind of workouts to do for better sex, depending on your goals: work on these areas if you want to be able to hold someone against a wall, or try some yoga if you like being bent in half.
... Weirdly enough? They will both see the face of someone they love (romantically or platonically) in the instructor. But, hey. Katy can definitely pick up the dumbbell if she wants. Go get ripped, girl.]
[Hey, he sure does see Effie and wish he didn't! It's stupid, because it's exactly the sort of thing she'd do once upon a time, but it's a punch to the gut to see her there.]
. . . that's a sight.
[He can't quite take his eyes off it. He's missed her.]
Wonder why they thought a gym needed to be locked up?
[And for Katy, it's... Daryl, of all people. He's probably in some skimpy coveralls, somehow. She frowns, because what else can you do.
The dumbbell is no longer interesting so that's getting left behind as she goes to check out the screen near the door. She'll try to flip the channel if there's buttons for that.]
That's the question of the fucking year. Maybe because no one wants to see Dary giving sex tips.
[If there's no buttons, she's searching for a plug. BEGONE.]
[There are buttons, but no visible cords! If this thing is plugged in somewhere, it likely goes through the wall somehow. Furthermore, Katy can try to flip the channel all she wants but nothing will happen.]

Three steps to your left.

Haymitch gets an eyeroll, though.]
Oh, hush. I'm two for two on the good ideas over here.
