[ here they are in a hallway. here they are in a hallway and they're SUPERHEROES
it's tuesday and it's break in day, so dick's back in his superhero outfit in front of a door, crouched to look at the lock critically. he turns to Aizawa and shakes his head a bit ]
Lockpicking's out, the trussing needles from the kitchen are too big. Plan B it is. [ and he takes out the blowtorch from one of his pouches! how does it fit? don't fucking question the utility belts, i don't understand them. anyway here he is. blowtorching some hinges. once the first set turns bright red, he goes for the second, moving quickly so one doesn't go cold before the other ] It shouldn't take too long.
[The sheer fact he's gone for the blowtorch entirely validates Aizawa's choice to throw his lot in with the other obvious hero here. He'd lost a few points earlier for going leaning-tower-of-pisa training but this makes up for it.]
Understand, if we find a way out, we go out. We can't secure an escape for the others if we get trapped.
[Otherwise, he watches the hinges heat up with a sort of mild interest. His quirk didn't have to do with heat or metal so he wasn't familiar with the intimate details of various critical heat points, but... well, they'd make it work.]
[Welcome to the hallway, superheroes. Your enemy: the door.
...which is less of an enemy right now, maybe? The hinges definitely heat up with the blowtorch's flame applied to them, and it looks like this time, it's actually having the effect that it should on a door. Where the others have resisted being broken, the hinges do not suddenly fix themselves or go suddenly cold, leaving the door ready for their next move. Weird.
dick frowns at aizawa's comment. the man isn't wrong, but it doesn't sit well with him to agree, so he just stays quiet, concentrating on his blowtorch work. especially since-- you know-- it's working. ]
Ha, yes. These hinges are definitely feeling the heat. Okay, get ready-- we're gonna kick it open.
[ which is to answer the mod text with co-op superhero mode, were dick moves away from the door quickly while the hinges are still going cough cough im dying sir and getting ready ]
On three--
[ aizawa can say three, it's fine, they probably don't need two fucking grown ass man to kick down a door ]
[Dick doesn't have to like it. He just has to know what needs to be done. And right now, what needs to be done is kicking this door off the hinges. Considering the heat application, it shouldn't take anything superhuman... but, well, by working together they save energy for whatever's behind it.]
One. Two.
[he understands that not having a good sense of timing here could hurt more than help, so,]
[They both kick the door in together, and honestly, it's a shame nobody else is here because it probably looks pretty cool? They're definitely upholding their superhero honor so far.
With the door no longer in the way, they can sort of see inside. Almost. It's dark in there, and there's not really anything illuminated by the open door (somehow, despite the comparatively smaller size of this room.) All they'll see to start off with will be a couple of wires on the floor leading deeper into the room, and two sources of illumination: on the right, there are a few tiny red lights. On the left, an LED bulb flashes.
Looks like getting a quick peek isn't an option. Enter the room, y/n.]
[ you know it absolutely is gonna be a yes, but dick peeks in first with a frown and then goes full Mission mode ]
Light isn't entering right for the size of the room. Wires on the ground-- we might have another recording room situation once we go in. Light bulb's probably gonna give out on us once we enter the room properly. JT and crew said the door closed behind them, so...
[ he takes out a? fucking small chef's knife? and tries to stab through the side of the door so that it sticks out and stops it from closing on them. this is! normal! ]
[The knife is a good idea! So is removing the door from the hinges. It stays damaged as Dick enters the room, though there are no sudden light sources for him in there-- he's not that lucky.
Aizawa is the real unlucky one, though.
As soon as he's stepped into the room far enough while messing with the door, there's an abrupt creaking sound. Both of them will feel a chill, and something cold and clammy seems to brush against their skin, as if their clothes aren't even there. The door moves as if someone is quickly lifting it back into position, though there's no visible sign of anyone...
And it snaps back into place. Aizawa will want to move fast if he doesn't want to get smacked with a door.
Also, the knife breaks right in two as the door slams back into its original position, leaving them fully in the dark.]
[ aw, man. his knife. :( he's gonna have to go take a new one. soon there will be 0 knives in the kitchen.
anyway, dick's turning around the second he hears that creak, just in time to see the fucking door flying at aizawa-- hm, bad! ]
Watch out!
[ he's taken one too many steps inside to be able to get the other man out of the way without either taking them both out of the room or getting a door to the face, so the warning will have to do. as it is--
as it is, he's got another knife out that was apparently up his fucking? sleeve? because he did not like that invisible badtouch! can a knife cut a ghost? probably not but it's that or a blow torch and his first reflex was the sharp object. ]
[wow, door, you're really making him regret how he tried to gently set you aside after kicking you off your hinges]
[Thankfully, the horrible clammy sensation is enough forewarning. It established there was a threat there and his body reacts. He rolls forward and throws an arm out. The cloth that usually sits around his neck snaps out, wrapping around the door's handle and-]
[-the door is moving with enough force that it honestly just yanks Aizawa with it a little, causing him to make an abrupt choking sound. Thankfully, the room's not big enough that it actually threw him or anything. The door returns to its proper place. Aizawa loosens the cloth and tugs it back, rubbing at his throat.]
[Well, the answer to 'can a knife cut a ghost' is no-- he doesn't make contact with anything as he pulls that knife out, but that's probably for the best. Meanwhile, Aizawa will discover something by rolling forward, namely that there are more than just the couple wires they could see before; he might have to dislodge one or two to get back up.
The room remains dark. On the right, there are still those small red lights that are coming from something just below eye-level. On the left, the LED bulb continues to flash.]
[ at least aizawa seems alright, even if his ghost reflex was completely useless. ]
Well, the good news is, you were right about the door breaking the knife.
[ ... is that good news... either way, the darkness isn't great, and dick steps closer to the doorway solely to check if there's a fuckin light switch he can flick on first. :/ if there isn't-- ]
Since we're stuck here anyway... Might as well. Left or right?
[ he's saving the blowtorch for when it's like, advanced darkness, since they can still see the lights right now. ]
[Aizawa doesn't reply until he's gotten his capture weapon all back into place. He knows there may be a point where he doesn't have a moment to compose himself here. Might as well take it while he can.]
I'll check right.
[once he untangles his foot from these wires. he's careful as he does so, making sure not to tug too much on any individual wire.]
By which I mean no, the writeup literally says the light switch is easily found by feeling around so you get this one. There is a lightswitch, and he can turn it on-- though there's something unstable about the electricity in here. The intensity of the lights fluctuates, growing dim and then brightening again.
The light illuminates a small room lined from floor to ceiling with mechanical devices. Opposite the entryway is an electrical switchboard, and Aizawa can now see that the red dots on the right are coming from what appears to be a breaker box, currently closed. They're also both able to see the wires scattered over the ground, reducing their risk of tripping.
[ dick grins once the light turns out, very proud of himself. congrats, bitch, you turned on a light switch. ]
Let there be light. [ though the way it flickers. hm. ] Might not last long, but it's a start. Looks like we're in some kind of electrical room. Let's try and keep this quick before whatever's awaiting us shows up. [ since aizawa already called the right, dick heads left to see what's there! ]
[Either way, he'll pull himself up to see if he can get the breaker box open. If the switches had some sort of labeling system, they could get an idea of what rooms they didn't have access to.]
[Maybe, optimistically, whatever was trapping them there could be powered down.]
[When Aizawa tries to open the breaker box... he'll find that it's not only closed, but locked. There's a small keyhole at the bottom; in theory, it could be opened with the correct key.
On the left side of the room, what stands out first is that bulb. It's attached to a panel without an obvious on or off switch, and it is still flashing.]
[The breaker box is still sitting there, red lights on. The other machinery on the right wall doesn't seem to have any labels, nor does most of it seem to be running; closer to the floor, cables begin to tangle together, forming part of the scattered mess of them.
Meanwhile, how thick are Dick's gloves, because LED lights do still give off heat and he's grabbing a bulb that is turned on. So! That might not be very comfortable, but he's not going to get burned just by touching it. It does spark slightly, though--
But it just continues to flicker, blinking quickly, then slowly, then quickly again.]
Believe me, he's not one for letting things go that easy.
[ his gloves are decently thick, unfortunately. especially if it's no real burning :(
alright, before he unscrews the light bulb and brings about a demonic plague, is there anything else on the right side at all he can see? or is it just the empty panel and the light bulb? he'll also try to see if there's not a secret way to pull out the empty panel and check like. the walls for secrets. give me a KEY ]
[fuck u batman, he now feels a sense of solidarity]
... a lot of this doesn't seem to be working right now. [he grumbles,]
[he'll lightly drag his fingertips over the pieces to see if he can identify their function- or if they're just power relays for the rest of this strange hotel.]
Is it nonfunctional or to-be-unlocked later...
[he frowns. the last group to try and break into a place had it unlock naturally. would that happen here? or would it have happened regardless? ... well, they'll find out eventually, won't they...]
[A lot of the machinery covering the walls just looks like this-- there's not a lot of labeling. These aren't the controls, seems like; they probably are just things like power relays, backup generators, that sort of thing.
Meanwhile, Dick's examination doesn't turn up any secret hiding spots. On his side of the room it's that panel, more unlabeled machinery, and a tangle of cables obscuring some of the floor.]
[ dick is going to go to the cables and. try and lift them gently to see if he can untangle them a bit :T this is terrible cable management??? be ashamed of yourself, demon hotel. also look under the machinery JUST IN CASE, calling out casually ]
You want the blow torch to see if we can break that lock?
[ once he's done observing he looks at the light bulb and just ... stares at it for a bit, eyes narrowed. what is this blink pattern.
me, realizing dick knows morse code: this better not be fucking morse code ]

I wouldn't be surprised if it just snaps that. I've got an idea.
[Aizawa grabs the edge of the door and jostles it slightly, getting a feel for how weakened it was. Then he firms his hold and]
