AS YOU KNOW, Kanesan never really cared much for Shiraishi? It appeared to him like Shiraishi simply didn’t care about suddenly finding himself in a place like this, and couldn’t be bothered to even try to do anything about it, and that rankled a lot! Like, come on, at least give it uno shot before accepting your fate. His opinion was not improved by how Shiraishi seemed to love twisting words around to suit his interests or play games with other people, because rude? Rude and also annoying.

What also didn’t help? The people he decided were worth trusting didn’t have great opinions of Shiraishi, either. So he felt justified. However, Kanesan has this problem where he feels that it’s important to work together even if you hate each other, and he firmly believes the best way to do that is to fish out the why behind someone’s words and actions. It’s important to talk about things!

So he tried, and usually this strategy works! He’s had a lot of success! But obviously Shiraishi didn’t go for it, so things just got worse lmao. That was fun for me if not Kanesan. So after a few attempts at figuring him out, Kanesan eventually just gave up because it clearly wasn’t worth pursuing any further. As far as he was concerned, Shiraishi didn’t want to bother with anyone, even to try and help find a way out, and that meant he was a waste of time. Even when he appeared in the graveyard, he didn’t seem to care about anything, so Kanesan just kept his distance so neither of them would have to be annoyed by each other. He may have been a little tempted to kick some sand in Shiraishi’s face when he was just lying there moping, but listen, he had better things to do than be that petty.

He does think it’s a shame that they never figured each other out, though! From the memory he saw, Kanesan is absolutely convinced that they’re… a bit similar, in their struggles with emotions and the human heart? It’s a common ground that they could have related over, if either of them could get over themselves long enough to bother, and he recognizes that. But Shiraishi being Shiraishi, he doesn’t think it’s worth spending his time on when they have the whole, you know, demon thing looming over their heads. Shiraishi nothing compared to that, and so Kanesan will just continue to treat him as such unless Shiraishi makes a move on his own, which he won’t. It’s fine.
