CHAPTER FOUR
"This is pointless," he said to me. "They're hunting us down, like we're cattle. There were 33 of us four weeks ago. Now there's only 12! And my brother, he was... He has a son he needed to get back to, Dio."
I asked him to calm down. Pleaded with him to hold onto his hope. We would speak to Caesar later, so he could share with us what the dead had whispered to him.
But as our conversation carried on, I could not let go of my guilt. I could not tell him what I had done, and who I had protected.

I glanced up from Chel's body, my face smoothing out into a blank mask to disguise my irritation. Megara stood a couple of feet away from me, arms crossed before her chest as she looked down at the disemboweled corpse in front of us. "So it seems," I said, flatly. "It was bound to happen sooner or later."
Megara humed thoughtfully, her eyes scanning the horizon before landing on Neena and Jason. From this distance, Neena looked hilariously tiny -- especially in comparison to Jason.
"So it seems," Megara echoed in agreement, before allowing her arms to drop to her sides. She ripped her gaze away from our guides in order to meet my eyes. "Let's meet up privately after the announcement. We don't know if Chel was targeted for her role as a Doxxer, and I want to discuss that possibility."
I was doing my laundry when they finally addressed us.
