[on tuesday evening we begin this break-in as we begin
every break-in that higekiri is a part of
by politely knocking on the door and asking politely:] Good evening, we are requesting an audience.
[it does nothing of course
which is when higekiri and wwx make eye contact with each other and exchange a secret message between their dumb monkey lion and rabbit brains, and wwx busts out his floot to play a beautiful tune as higekiri just pirouettes in front of the door because it worked last time. he jazzhands at the door]
[Just. Staring. Tail flicking in annoyance, and he leans over to whisper back.]
Just...just let them. It's better if they get it out now than inside. [Goddamn gremlins. But after a moment:]
Uh, guys? Think we might want to try something else. [...he just hipchecks both of them out of the way to pull a hairpin out of the pocket of his jeans. Give him a moment to work on picking the lock!
Naturally, it does nothing. Because fuck you too, door.]
Don't look at us like that, it worked on the last door!
[HE TOLD YOU ABOUT THE TOOT FLOOT JUNPEI, GOD!!
But with all of that said and done, he's just tapping his chin. HM. HM...]
...We could try to kick it down again?
[He's not even giving any more warning than that, he's just fucking rushing at the door immediately so GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE STILL IN THE WAY, you might just get knocked over too when he goes nyooming in for a fullass twink kick!!]
The door is apparently not in the mood to be kicked, even though it had it coming after all those completely polite attempts to get past it. It will swing open as WWX lunges at it, far too late for him to stop in his tracks. He's going to topple into the room, taking down anyone who might have been in the way.
As always, it's dark as heck inside the room. None of the light from the hallway filters in... and furthermore, there's a low humming noise coming from inside.]
[hige stepped out of the way because he's a cheating ballerina and that's why he needs to be stabbed. but he's. also just going to laugh a little bit when the door opens and wwx just crashes, apparently along with the other two]
Haha, oh wow, that actually worked this time.
[LAST TIME WWX JUST GOT DENIED.
but higekiri will just move to peer inside?? and then he'll step inside and actually like. offer his hands out to junpei and beck to get up]
[Her ears flatten and her eye widens as soon as she realizes what's about to happen.]
Wait, Wei Wuxian, don't—
[That's, of course, far too late to stop this from happening. She's instinctively grabbing for Junpei's arm right before her gremlin roommate slams into them, which probably does not help matters.
Well. At least they're all in the room now, probably.]
[JESUS GOD WHY. Beck grabs his arm and he doesn't even have time to react outside of a surprised yelp because it's a pile of morons on the floor with King Moron knocking into all of them. Higekiri's been hipchecked out of the way but it doesn't stop the rest from eating dirt.
Still. He takes Higekiri's hand and hauls himself up, helping Beck to her feet and waiting for WWX to pick himself up.]
...you guys hear that, right? [Time to take out his clamshell and try to see if it'll help with the light situation.]
But he seems perfectly fine, probably because he had a soft cushion of idiots to fall on. He'll dust off his robes though, carefully making sure all of his squirreled-away clinic items are still in place.]
I was expecting you all to get out of the way...
[There's a note of apology in his tone but god what a gremlin. ANYWAY he sure does hear the humming, and he'll take it upon himself to fish out his clamshell so he can pat around at the walls to the left and then right of the door, looking for a switch.]
[The door slams shut once Higekiri steps inside. They will hear a click from the direction of the door.
The clamshells help, but only just a little bit. They'll be able to see the linoleum tiles beneath their feet, but it doesn't look like there's anything directly in front of them or to their sides. Luckily, WWX will find a switch to the right side of the door.]
[higekiri will glance back in the direction of the door and once he's sure that everyone's on their feet and recovered from their stumble, he'll let his hand fall on the hilt of his sword just in case. his free hand will also use his clamshell in order to try and see until the light situation gets fixed
he listens closely, trying to place the humming noise. he tries to turn in that direction and head closer to it]
[She stands up a little bit stiffly, blinking in the dark as she pulls out her clamshell in turn. When she hears that noise, she's taking a few steps towards it as well if she can. To Higekiri:]
[The door locks and he just sighs because of course. That's normal. He has one hand in his pocket just in case he has to make a grab for a weapon but his other hand continues to shine the clamshell light over the floor. He'll take a few cautious steps to the left to see what might be here.]
If it's another corpse, I'm leaving it to someone else. [Just. Throwing that out there.] Gremlin, did you find the lights?
[Higekiri and Beck may very well end up walking into each other in a confused circle; the noise is coming from all directions. Meanwhile, the light from Junpei's clamshell will bounce off something metallic.
Luckily for everyone, flipping the switch will turn on the lights in the room. Though the fluorescent tubes flicker and buzz as they turn on, providing only the bare minimum of light for everyone, it's more than enough to allow the group to see their surroundings.
To their right, the group will spot three mortuary washing stations. Each station is equipped with a stainless steel autopsy table, a sink, a hanging weigh scale, a stainless steel counter and a small stainless steel cabinet. Autopsy tools are laid out on the counters to the right of each autopsy table, and a small refrigerator is located beneath each counter. A metal door is visible at the very bottom of the room. To their left, the group will spot rows upon rows of steel mortuary refrigerators, all of them pushed together to span the entirety of the left wall. All the refrigerators in the room produce a low, humming noise, indicating that they're currently functional. With how dim the lights are, however, they will have to get closer to take a proper look at their surroundings.
[HE'S GOING TO SAY IT. in ye olde days you didn't put your corpses in fridges you just left them on the battlefield and made them someone else's problem!! why do you need the leftovers!! but he figures someone will explain it to him if he at least announces that much.
don't mind higekiri as he goes to examine the steel mortuary refrigerators, brow furrowing as he goes to investigate. he'll pocket his clamshell again at least. is everything spotlessly clean? what's going on here.]
[Haha! Bad. She's crossing her arms almost unconsciously with a frown.]
...It's a morgue.
[Because they'll definitely know what that is if they don't recognize this area! Please fill in the blanks, Junpei.
Either way, she's heading towards one of the autopsy tables - if there are scalpels included in the tools near said tables, she's going to grab one, because she sure doesn't like this! But she'll also look around the autopsy table itself. Anything strange or out of place?]
Man, what did I just say about corpses? [But to fill in the blanks:] In some places, like where Beck and I are from, a morgue is a place where dead bodies are kept. They're stored here before funerals or for things like autopsies...when you examine the cause of death.
[Beck is at the tables, and Higekiri's going to the fridges. Junpei's pocketing his clamshell and definitely going to examine the other door, tentatively testing to see if he can open it, or if there's a window to view through, etc.]
[He is, VERY FUCKIN CURSEDLY AND UNFORTUNATELY, practically buzzing with intrigue as soon as this room is explained. He was already putting two and two together pretty fast considering what room it's attached to and the fact that apparently ancient china also put their dead bodies on slabs for cleaning, but now HE'S JUST. HE'S SO CURIOUS. HE'S LOOKING AROUND LIKE HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START.]
Oh! Haha, I guess it makes sense to have something like that on a ship... Passengers probably die mid-sail all the time during long trips, even on a regular boat.
[CHEERY.
But, hm. Well. Higekiri's inspecting the outside of the fridges, but he's just going to trot over to open up the fridge door on the farthest left. At least he opens it just a tiny crack first to peek in before pulling it open more, just in case it's fuckin booby trapped...
[The mortuary refrigerators are very, very clean. The stainless steel is impeccably polished, to the point where Higekiri and WWX will be able to see their own reflection. Unfortunately for WWX, the refrigerator he's trying to pull will not open. However, both he and Higekiri will notice that all the refrigerators seem to be labeled. Assuming Higekiri is standing near the rightmost corner while WWX is at the far left, the labels on the doors they're standing in front of are smudged beyond legibility. Hm.
It's Beck's lucky day because there's a scalpel among the tools near the autopsy table! And there are other sharp, bladed tools she can spot at a glance. There's nothing out of place at first glance, but... As she looks at the autopsy table herself, she will notice the light reflects oddly off a spot on the upper right corner of the table. It almost looks like there are scratches there. Hm.
Junpei will find that the door at the bottom of the room is super duper locked, though. There aren't any windows or any handy dandy labels to get an idea of what lies beyond it. Maybe they're not meant to go through it in this break-in, hm?]
Oh... So we'll likely be finding some deceased in here?
[like he's just going to go ahead and say it. he'll look over to where wwx seems to be having trouble with his door and then look back at his own. the rightmost door! is there a way to count how many doors there are in total? regardless higekiri will just be trying to knock on the rightmost door then.
and then he'll try to open it to see if he has the same problem! first a crack, and then the whole way if he can and he's not spontaneously attacked or nothing falls out.]
[She’s frowning at everything about this, especially Higekiri’s prediction. Regardless, when she notices that... She turns her attention towards the spot, lightly running a hand over where the scratches appear.]
What on Earth?
[Also, this scalpel is Hers now. She’s glancing over to see what other items there are amongst the tools other than the small blade she’s grabbed.]
Most likely, yeah. Or a zomb--you know what, no, never mind. I'm not saying it. [Door? Hewwo? He...kicks it, but that sure is locked so he'll head toward Beck.] What'd you find?
[And while she's checking the tools, he'll crouch and try to open the refrigerators under the counters as Higekiri and Wei Wuxian work on the bigger ones.]
[HE'S HOPING HE FINDS A ZOMBIE where are his zombies dammit he misses Wen Ning.
Anyway, with this fridge not working, he'll just scoot one over to the right. Any legible labels on this one? He repeats the same process of trying to open the door carefully so he can go sticking his nose around looking for some bodies.]
You've already practically said it, though!
[Bring on the z o m b i e s. He's also kind of keeping an eye and ear out toward where Beck is Just In Case. He has zero concern for himself but many concern for the people in here with him...]
[If Higekiri takes the time to individually count them, he will see there are 33 refrigerators on the left wall. Nice! Most of them have illegible, smudged writing... But there are some that are legible. Higekiri and WWX have found two of those now. The refrigerator Higekiri is trying is labeled as A████. It slides open easily enough, revealing a humanoid shape covered by a white plastic sheet. A clipboard is laying on top of the sheet, with some documents attached. The next one WWX tries is labeled N████, and WWX will find a similar scene inside: a humanoid shape under a plastic sheet, and a clipboard with some documents attached.
As Beck touches the scratches, they will notice that they are the right shape and size to match up with a human's hand. On the counter, she will find: Forceps, a cartilage knife, a dissecting hook, a blowpipe, an enterotome, a bone saw. a brain knife, a chisel, rib cutters, and scissors.
The first refrigerator Junpei open is stocked with jars filled with brightly colored, glowing liquid. Most of them are green and labeled, but... One of them glows blue. It lacks a label.]
