JUNPEI!!! Tonbo absolutely adores this disaster man despite actually never having any disasteriffic threads with him? It’s still wild they somehow managed to never sleep together either. WE FAILED, TY. THEY TALKED BUSINESS TOO MUCH.
Anyways,
Junpei has certainly become his confidant throughout his time here, that One Person he goes to when shit is making less sense than usual and he needs somebody to sort out all the chaos happening on both the boat and his head. Not that there was much explained ever but by god did they try.
He’s also ridiculously smart about things despite just fumbling his way through shit and Tonbo honestly respects that? Like, he might not know what the fuck is happening ever but he’s certainly Trying. (it still cracks him up that the swords time traveling baffles him ftr.)
Which is why he’s absolutely certain they’ll meet again given all the braincells that get to return home. He’s 1000% confident in them. He has to be.
Though- but also. Someone’s gonna have to definitely explain to him how fox wife somehow married hige when he was certain she was married to junpei??? did she just collect a whole bunch of mates???? how did this- when did this happen?????????

God. He feels so bad for Hige?? Honestly, if there was anyone he thought he’d ask to switch places with it’d be him? Only because Tonbo knows he’d probably be happier to be here with Hiza then being the one trying to bust their way back in. But alas, Hige gets the ‘better’ outcome.
He also gained a fox wife which he was pretty sure married Junpei along the way and he’s very quietly baffled about him becoming a consort but whatever floats his boat ig.

It also kills me personally that he kept accidentally asking the right question to learn the ins and out of Tonbo’s sexy times and Tonbo was too himbo to Not Answer That? My poor idiot. I love him.
But he definitely was happy to have a chance to get to know the Genji’s better and their sudden increase of siblings? ( which he still doesn’t really get but he sure rolled with it. ) The Increasingly Confusing Lore makes no sense whatsoever but whatever makes them happy.

It continues to kill me personally that Tonbo absolutely this gremlin who absolutely doesn’t deserve it? Somehow he’s managed to worm his way into Tonbo’s heart and make himself comfortable.
But the worst part? Is he allows it’s because there’s a good portion of wwx that reminds him of Muramasa. Chaotic on the outside but in desperate need of someone by his side to believe in him. Of course he sees right through half of his shit. Tonbo’s lived with it for years.
I also still can’t believe he (well. they.) got him well and truly sloppy drunk messy. They sure were helping him have nothing but new human experiences huh? New hair, wild drinks, gremlin cuddles. Talk about the whole 9 yards.

So aaaaall of this chaos aside, Tonbo’s real concerned for this gremlin child going home after this Not Great Ending? Like, sure he’ll be fine. HIS BOYFRIEND(?) WILL NOT? WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN AND HOW DID HE NEVER NOTICE? (he’s blind that’s why) But Tonbo absolutely has faith in him and his genius to bust through a dimension or three. hey maybe his necromancing will save their dead selves.

FOR THE RECORD, I NEVER EXPECTED THEM TO FALL DOWN THIS PATH? If anything at most I thought they’d be closer to fwb than anything even upon returning to the citadel but maybe a lil bit (A Lot) more protective than he understood why because no one ever explained a proper doki.
But this dumbass fell head over heels? HEELY’D HIS WAY INTO SHENANIGANS? I DON’T KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED? I mean sure, they already had pre-established cr to help but given how much of their time they spent in bed here, lbr it was probably that.
God they were such horny teenagers it kills me.
ANYWAYS. It was probably the first not-death that kind of put him on notice about the depth of his feelings but it really wasn’t until Nikkari was legit damaged to the point of Tonbo not knowing if he would wake up or not that really cinched everything for him.
And then he spent like a week going through all of the songs they’ve ever sung and Figured It Out. It’s great. I’m a foolio who never linked Love Story but it’s probably in there too.
AND NOW THIS. He’s figured it. Nikkari knows. Nikkari returns his feelios. And they might never see each other again. Everything is awful? It’s not great fam. On one hand, he’s so glad that somehow with everything that’s happened Nikkari, he escaped this fate and he gets to go home. On the other, Tonbo is so glad that it’s him not Nikkari left behind to be corrupted. Of course he’d like it if Kanesan and Hiza were going home too but, if anyone. He’s Glad it’s Nikkari. not that he’s biased or anything at all.
But between everyone they know going home, there’s absolutely no way they won’t be reunited. He just has to hold that in his heart no matter what happens to him along the way. And maybe? After all the shit they've gone through, they’ll meet again.

How fond of you he was.
Tonbo's quite honestly not sure where he stands with her anymore after that disaster of an ending. He doesn't particularly fault her for her choices but at the same time, wow he's Just A Little Bitter? She gets to go home to conquer her world (probably) and he's stuck here without a way out separated forever from his beloved unless a miracle occurs? IT'S FINE..... HE'S FINE....... She's absolutely not the first person he'd hunt down once the demons take over or anything.
Anyways.
He never 100% agreed with her actions sometimes but this one just really cinches the deal. For all the thotting they did (and boy, did he like it) that's the end of their business deal basically. May she have a good life but he'll be happier without her help ever again.

i’m so sad i’m a foolio who never tagged him more and tonbo was too polite to bother him without any reason to? but despite that all he still learned enough to be very fond of him through both through word of mouth and just seeing him at trials.
god knows he’s always felt a bit bad for the npcs being in the positions they were in. EVEN MORESO WHEN THEY GET STUCK ON THOTS ISLAND WITH THE REST OF THE DEAD? not that he knew they were already technically dead but you know. semantics.
